Getting paintings ready..

Just finished the last of the landscape screen paintings.  They will be hanging in the Lovejoy bakery the whole month of August.  Go see them!

New landscape screen paintings

Just started a series of "nightscape" screen paintings.... I plan on doing more using the aurora borealis theme... It seems to work well with the screen medium.

For those of you who don't know, Ive been experimenting with the process of making paintings with a screen suspended inches from the canvas. I was hoping for an ethereal, supernatural, even holographic effect (which, by the way, is really, really hard to document with photographs).

It seems to be working best with the portraits I've done.....here I tried some landscapes with the same technique...not sure if its conducive to the process.....

the beautiful mundane

Every act is an act of being. With every free--willed movement you are chiseling and sculpting some great story written and buried in a mass of temporal stone since before time. Therefore, there really is no dividing line between the temporal, mundane acts of life and the more euphoric moments. Besides, we only gauge life's "goodness" on whether or not we are receiving pleasure from it or not.

But life is not about our little kingdom and egos that govern it. Life is transpiring about us and we are partakers in it's kinetic story. Kind of like swimming in a river-we can simply navigate with the current or spend our entire life's energy pushing against it.

I believe this strand of thought and am therefore compelled to believe ALL things to be purposeful and spiritual (maybe not beneficial but spiritual). When we are awakened to the spiritual and eternal current working in and around us, all acts, even the most debase and everyday become beautiful and important and equal to our most heightened moments of life.

That said, I REALLY enjoyed jack hammering out our old sidewalk last week in the front of the house and setting the frames for the new concrete.

Some highlights were: bonding with my 12 year old nephew as he helped me dig out the old concrete and stone, and filming a ridiculous skit with Lucian that played up our mutual fascination with the jackhammer.

This week Nicole's parents are here and they are helping us tear apart the garage and turn it into another room in the house......more pictures to come. Im such a geek about this stuff.
